Dita turns designer! Von Teese shows off her hourglass figure in stunning floral maxi-dress at launch of her new fashion collection

She is better known for recently popularising the artful striptease dances of burlesque.

But on Thursday night, it was instead about putting on the clothes for Dita Von Teese as she launched her new capsule clothing collection in Los Angeles.

The 40-year-old star looked her usual stylish self in a pretty red, light blue and white maxi dress from her own collection as she arrived at Melrose Avenue store Decades for the event.

The star was clearly looking forward to the launch of her collection, tweeting: 'Getting ready for my dress collection launch @decadesinc in Los Angeles tonight. I'm so excited, slightly nervous...!'

The star happily mingled inside the store which showed off her collection of four dresses and a trench coat inspired by the star's enthusiasm for vintage.

Each piece ranges from $595 to $995 and is offered in sizes four through to 16, with Dita sporting the 'Bon Bon' dress, adapted from a 1930s gown in her closet.

According to w la.racked.com, the store's co-owners Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos dotted the boutique with items from Dita's personal archive including a Marc Jacobs-gifted Louis Vuitton hat case to diamond bespoke shoes by Christian Louboutin

'I have always wanted to do something like this, to re-create vintage pieces in wearable sizes and fabrics,' Dita told the Los Angeles Times.

'But I don't claim to be a fashion designer, because I have so much respect for my designer friends and what they do. I don't sketch or sew. My talent lies in styling myself and choosing vintage pieces that don't make me look like I'm starring in a costume drama.'

The star, who admits to having a 'huge vintage collection' said she is interested in expanding into designing more affordable wear.

'I don't just collect designer labels, but also clothes normal women wore,' she said. 'And it drives me crazy that you don't get all those details today that you used to in clothing.'
